125 Glen Albert Drive in East York(Toronto) is a small (800 Sqft) energy inefficient 1950s Bungalow, well it was at the start of this blog at least. The goal is to transform it into a modern two storey net zero house, that is a house that creates as much energy as it produces (e.g., taking it off the grid. Or if we really get it right, a house that actually produces more energy than it uses.
Along with taking the house off-the-grid, the various investments we make in the house must also make economic sense. The budget for the project is limited, so I'll be trying to looking for the best choices in terms of payback. Some of the priorities identified so far including
-geothermal heating/cooling (which will also do some preheating of the water)
-solar water heating
-tankless heating for topping up the water temperature
-insulation (both rigid and sprayfoam)
-eco no VOC paints and materials
-Solar PV (as the source of electricity)
